represents the interests of 26 cities and water districts, and two private

In California, the USEPA delegates responsibility for the
enforcement of drinking water standards to the State of
California Department of Health Services (CDHS) Drinking Water Program.
CDHS regulates drinking water systems in California to ensure
compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act and establishes drinking
water standards that must meet or exceed USEPA standards.
NCCWD must follow these standards to ensure that water served
by NCCWD is always safe to drink. For information about CDHS or to
learn about the drinking water regulations in California, go to www.dhs.ca.gov/ps/ddwem/index.htm.
The United States Environmental
Protection Agency (USEPA) establishes standards for water quality that
must be met by all drinking water systems in the country.
USEPA maintains the Drinking Water Hotline where consumers can
ask questions about drinking water quality. Access the Hotline and
obtain drinking water information at www.epa.gov/safewater/.
The American Water Works Association (AWWA) is the main organization
of drinking water professionals. The AWWA includes individual
members as well as water agencies and water industry companies.
AWWA provides educational services for its members and the public,
conducts research in the drinking water field, and lobbies federal and
state legislatures on behalf of the drinking water industry.
For information related to their activities go to www.awwa.org.
NCCWD purchases its water from the City of San Francisco Public
Utilities Commission (SFPUC). SFPUC provides high quality water from
a pristine source located in an isolated section of Yosemite National Park.
For more information about SFPUC and the source of NCCWD’s water,
